Freeport Pretzel Reunion

Freeport (Illinois) High School

February 8-10, 2008

Las Vegas, Nevada

ALL FREEPORTERS WELCOME

We get discounts on hotel rooms and activities if we have enough numbers. Activities may include a Texas No Limit Hold 'Em poker tournament, shows, night clubs, trips to see Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, helicopters over the strip at night...many, many choices.

Please tell Lisa how many people in your group, smoking or non-smoking, how many beds, and for the banquet on Saturday, what types of food.

We'll be staying at Binion's in downtown Las Vegas. Recently renovated, Binions is where the current poker craze started. Binions has a rooftop pool, three parking garages, restaurant, and several wheelchair-accessable rooms. It is located on the covered Freemont Street, home of the Freemont Street Experience.

Room rates, including all taxes and fees, start at less than $81 per night! Call Lisa (see box at left) to have her schedule your hotel room, airline flight, rental car and activities in Las Vegas.

Activities in Las Vegas
We will have a reception, but the details are not yet available. It will be held on Saturday, February 9. We are asking for $10 per person to help offset the cost of the room and refreshments.

Below is just a sampling of tours, productions, magic, headliners and attractions. Those marked in green are things my wife and I have done and recommend. These are events happening now; I can't guarantee that they will be happening in February, but most should be.

We usually rent a car, and recommend that you do if you want to do a self-tour. The Las Vegas Strip is nearby, Hoover Dam is a short drive; the Grand Canyon is several hours away.

When should I arrive?
Some of us are still working stiffs and have to work at least part of the day on Friday. The good news is that Las Vegas never closes. Flights leave Rockford in the morning and early afternoon. There are at least four flights per hour all day leaving Chicago for Las Vegas, some leaving as late as 9:15 pm, getting into Las Vegas at 11:05 pm, a four hour flight, but gaining two hours in time difference.

What group activities are planned?
The only planned group activities are the reception, probably Saturday afternoon, and a poker tournament. Both will probably be on Saturday. We are also looking into a Friday evening welcoming event.

What should I wear?
Las Vegas isn't fancy, and neither is our reunion. Just bring and wear casual clothes. It may be cool and wet in Las Vegas in February. We are avoiding the hot desert weather. It will be warmer than Freeport in winter, but cooler than Florida. Bring comfortable walking shoes.

Do I have to plan activities now?
No. Lisa may be able to get you some package deals, and possibly some group rates if some of us want the same things, but you can make plans later, if you wish.

Do I have to stay at Binions?
No. You can stay where ever you want. Lisa negotiated very low room rates at Binions, but if you have a condo or friends or relatives or whatever, just stay where you want. If you just decide to show up at the reception at the last minute, that's okay, too.

Can I help?
You betcha. Just email Robert and volunteer!
