Norman Kuhlemeier

Evelyn Stearns

Norman Kuhlemeier went to Union School, the old Junior High School, and Freeport Senior High School, graduating in the Class of 1947. Then he went to Illinois College, the oldest college in Illinois, at Jacksonville for his Bachelor's Degree. Later he earned a Master's Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University at DeKalb.

Norm taught for 33 years in the Freeport School District that included 27 years at Blackhawk School in Sixth Grade and the last six years at Carl Sandburg Middle School when all the Sixth Graders were moved there in 1982.

Norm was born in Freeport and lived most of his early life on Empire Street halfway between Oak and Walnut Streets. He used to play on the field that later became the Blackhawk School playground!

His wife, Rose Ann, is originally from Madison, Indiana. Her family moved to Freeport when she was in Sixth Grade and she graduated from FHS. She also taught in the Freeport School District.

They raised 4 children and have lived at the same address on Roosevelt Street in Freeport for nearly 50 years now.

Norm has been a Commander in the VFW, President of Golden K Kiwanis Club, volunteers where needed and bowls in two leagues.
